This week we’ve noticed the chive flowers, which are in abundance right outside the kitchen window, are covered with bumble bees of several different varieties. They seem to stay there all night too (I did check they weren’t dead!), they appear to get a little sleepy – perhaps they nod off after gorging on the nectar!!
A poor toad had a lucky escape too as I unearthed him when I was digging a hole for a new hydrangea. Amazingly the prongs missed him and he was returned safely to the garden – it was only later I thought I should have moved him to the poly tunnel to eat the slugs!
There are two jackdaw nests in the barn roof, one over each of the doors. I’m sure they must be ready to fledge any day now, they make quite a din every time we go in an out.
The swallows too are doing well in the rafters, and there are blue tits nesting in a hole in the wall, not seen the babies yet but watching out for them.
