Many of you will already know that we have pledged to plant a tree for every holiday booking we receive. After another turbulent year for the hospitality business we’re very pleased to say we’ve been busy with the spade again, adding a further 68 trees to our little patch of West Wales. In fact, in one way the pandemic has been good for our tree planting pledge – some of our guests had one tree allocated for their first booking and then, when they had to postpone due to covid, a second tree when they finally managed to get here!
In total we have now planted 211 trees since we moved here in June 2018. The latest batch included 45 Box trees which will form an evergreen hedge, providing winter cover for our local bugs and birds and a windbreak for the pub garden. We’ve also planted a 14 oak trees, Braeburn and crab apples, two Commice pears, Morello and flowering cherries, and Excalibur and Damson plums, so hopefully we’ll have plenty of blossom for the honeybees this spring and the hut field will look stunning too.
Added to these we planted a Spindle Tree on Father’s Day, a Witch Hazel on what would have been my Dad’s birthday, and a Yew tree on the Winter Solstice – my Dad loved the woods to it’s a great way for us to remember him and celebrate his life.
We plan to continue this pledge until we’ve run out of land – with 26 acres we’ve still got plenty of room! And if you would like to plant your own tree but don’t have a garden at home, you’re welcome to buy one and pop it in the ground here; send us a message of give us a call to find out more.
